Mountain Lion Hunts

Montana has a generous mountain lion population in the southwest where we hunt. Every hunting district is controlled by a quota system, so many toms and so many females are allowed in each district. We have four hunting districts to hunt in, giving us many opportunities.

You must purchase a license by August 31st of the hunting year, cost for the licence is $350 and after you have taken a lion there is a $50 trophy fee owed to Fish Wildlife and Parks. Prices subject to change by MT FWP.

We conduct the hunts on an on call basis for the best chances of success. If the snow conditions are good, so are your chances of taking a lion. You will be staying at our Lodge and hunting from the comforts of home, often starting as early as 3:00 A.M. for the best opportunities. This is a physical hunt and the better shape you are in the easier it will be for you. We use trucks, ATV's, and snowmobiles to find the tracks. We then turn out the well-trained, conditioned hounds to see if the track is fresh enough to run. Often we use tracking collars and can get closer in pursuit, but often a great deal of leg work is required. The dogs will follow and tree the cat if possible and we need to get there as quickly as we can. If the right conditions do not occur, your hunting deposit will be forwarded to the next year. You will need to purchase another lion tag.

Cost for this hunt is $3800.00 for a 7 day hunt and can be prorated for additional days if necessary. If a cat is treed and a hunter turns the cat down or is physically unable to get to the tree, we consider it a successful hunt. You will not need a large rifle for the lion hunt. Handguns or archery (with an archery stamp) are also allowed, please know your equipment well, inquire. We are also taxidermists so your trophy will be professionally taken care of.
