Several professors from the Montana College system have come to the facility for retreat meetings so they could plan, and organize a curriculum for their students in the future.
We have provided a location for the Kidfitter’s Camp in the past where children from broken homes come for a week and learn, flora and fauna, animal hide and track identification, outdoor skills, horseback riding, fishing and general companionship with the outdoor world. They had lessons in starting fire and cooking over the fire as well as shooting bows and arrows while camping out overnight. All experiences the children will long remember.
Over the last three years we have had training sessions for the military: Air Force Special Forces, Para rescue teams, and Navy Seals. These young men have and continue to serve our country. While here they received training on site and in the field exercises in the skills of riding and packing livestock as well as parachuting in to our licensed air drop zone here at the Iron Wheel Guest Ranch. The skills they learned here will be used as they are required to travel to other countries to defend our country. We provide the lodging, meals and livestock as well as trainers for these session that usually run two to five days. We start at the lodge for practice and initial training, then out in the field for actual scenarios, with progressive travel. They have practiced extrication exercises, retrieval missions, as well as doing the parachuting and meeting up with livestock, riding, packing and caring for the stock while out for days. High altitude is one of the elements that we offer that is necessary on many of their excursions. Our staff are well qualified to teach the packing and handling of livestock to these men.
A College group of geologists (15–28 persons) from out of State has come for the last three years. They plan to continue to come to the area and learn about the boulder batholith rock formations in the area, and document the information for the local college.
During the summer months we take numerous persons on their first horseback ride, getting to introduce them to the world beyond the cities. They get basic introductions to horses and actual experience in the field. The flora and fauna as well as the different Mountain Ranges and possible wildlife sightings are all very positive experiences for everyone.
Many of our fisherpersons or floaters are on their first trip on a River on in the Mountains of Montana , our goal is to be sure it is a safe and positive experience for them.
Wildlife can be abundant on these trips and high mountain lakes can be an option for sub-alpine terrain experiences, hiking to lakes or just enjoying the elements.
Our belief is that everyone should have outdoor time with physical activity every day for health and peace of mind. |
